  • Healthy Eating, Active Communities
PPH serves as the program office for the local demonstration component of The Endowment's Healthy Eating, Active Communities program (HEAC). HEAC seeks to prevent childhood obesity through environmental strategies that help communities become places where healthy choices are possible. PPH provides direct coaching and technical support for collaborative development, coordinates technical support providers and resources, manages grants, develops lessons learned and supports capacity building among local health departments, community coalitions and school districts in six sites across California.
  • The California Convergence
Funded by Kaiser Permanente and The California Endowment, this effort seeks to strengthen and expand a growing movement in California to improve nutrition and physical activity environments. PPH provides the support to link state and local policy advocates, coordinates state and national communications leaders to frame the public dialogue, and is building networks to support peer learning and sustainable community leadership.
  • Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP)
PPH provides technical support coordination for this multi-year, 8 county program of the Central California Public Health Partnership, funded by The California Endowment, that aims to reduce disparities in obesity and diabetes in Central California communities.
  • Building Capacity for Local Public Health Departments in California
PPH has extensive experience working with local health departments including 14 in the original Partnership for the Public's Health initiative, five in the Healthy Eating, Active Communities initiative, eight in the Central California Obesity Prevention Program, and 11 in a public health department mini-grant program. In addition to providing technical assistance and organizational development support, PPH has been a platform for statewide activities that promote the ability of local health departments to build their capacity for chronic disease prevention by addressing social determinants of health.
  • Building Healthy Communities
The California Endowment's ambitious new 10-year initiative, Building Healthy Communities, funds and supports 14 communities across California to pursue place-based change to address the root conditions that affect peopleÕs health. Communities will work to address issues of poverty, employment, education, child development, housing and the environment.

A key indicator of a healthy community will be whether its children and youth are healthy, safe and ready to learn. During the planning phase of this project, PPH is providing support and coordination to the 14 BHC communities, in partnership with the Center for Collaborative Planning and the Center for Civic Partnerships.
